Candidate Forum

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is again sponsoring a candidates’ forum on July 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Gaylord City Hall. The purpose of the forum is to meet and hear the five candidates running for judge of the 46th Circuit Court, which includes Otsego, Crawford, and Kalkaska Counties. The vacancy was created when Judge Janet Allen announced her retirement, effective December 31st, 2016.

Two lawyers from Crawford County have announced their candidacy — Jason Thompson and Colin Hunter. Three lawyers from Otsego County are also running — David Delaney, Michael Edwards, and Kevin Hesselink. Judicial elections are non-partisan, and the two candidates receiving the greatest number of votes from the three counties in the August primary will go on to the November election.

Also speaking at the forum will be Michael Rola and Brendan Curran, both running for prosecutor in Otsego County on the Republican ticket.

The format will not be a debate. Each candidate will have an opportunity to address the audience, who will have an opportunity to ask questions. Mike Reling of the Eagle 101.5 will moderate. The forum is open to the public and there is no charge. AAUW will provide light refreshments.

This event is co-sponsored by the Eagle 101.5 and the Gaylord Herald Times.
